Happy Mother's Day.
My dear gentle reader.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a most wonderful Mother's day?
I just wanted to pop down a few feelings and ideas about what it takes to be a mum...
entitled:
stuff I know now.
* I am stronger than I thought I was.
* it is harder than I thought it would be. (<-------------UNDERSTATEMENT)
* I am NOT a very maternal person.. I am seriously not good at the whole "selfless giving of my entire being" thing. Learning this and understanding that I can be this way.. and still be a good mummy, has been an important lesson in my life.
* I am not a perfect Mummy, but I am a great mummy.
*It is the hardest job on earth.
I say this NOT in a rich person who doesnt REALLY know how hard it is...( Oprah).. but in a "been on my knees,
sobbing,
punching a wall and nearly breaking my hand so I wouldnt hurt a baby who JUST KEPT CRYING,
desperate,
all encompassing,
been there and LIVED it ."
way.
* it is also most rewarding. I look at my girls and the women they are becoming.. and I feel more confidence in the future because of them. They are wonderful girls, who are empathetic, loving, caring and peace desiring. I am so proud of that.
* Stretch marks... badges of motherhood.. or sucky purple scars?? Discuss.
* I cant blame my girls for any weight gain I have .. UNLESS my girls names are in fact : Sav Blanc and Chocolate. ( **which they arent .. although that would be kinda fun, wouldn't it??.)
* If I could change my girls names now... i would add "REBEL" to Belle's name... and "Lola" to Georgie's.
( and I would rename myself Ngaire Peace Bartlam.. while I was at it. I still might one day..)
*I have NEVER been more happy, nor more satisfied with the person that i am today.. in my life. I owe this in part to my girls. Without them i would not have allowed the real me to ever surface. I am so grateful to them for that.
* I am madly in love with the little women my two girls are growing into. I know that in some way, big or small.. they will both MAKE A DIFFERENCE in their worlds. You heard it here first.
*A loving partner, who really does love you, finds you sexy and attractive, and still feels that way after twenty years and over thirty kilos?? THAT is a partner worth loving,, and hanging onto, gentle reader.
PB is that man.
*Post Natal Depression is real. and it sucks the big one. If you ever feel the need to remove yourself from this earth.. TALK TO SOMEONE!!! NOW!! Do it NOW!!!!.
*a cat is easier.
* breast milk is NOT a great perfume.... nor does it come from just one hole per breast:)) ( yeah.. thanks for NOT letting me know....)
* you do need eyes in the back of your head.
* babies are hard physical and mental work.
* teenagers are harder emotional work.
* sleep is good. sooooooooooooooooo good.
* burnt toast is not tasty.. whether it is made with love or not. Cold tea? same.
*vomit in your underwear is NEVER.. repeat.. NEVER a good thing. ( esp when it isn't yours.)
* some kids are made of velcro. seriously. Think limpet.
* I often think I could be placed for several hours per day by a loop tape that says:" clean up your mess, put your shoes away, have you eaten breakfast, have a piece of fruit, I dont care what other kids are doing, save up if you want it, leave your sister alone."
*women in the same house do "cycle" together. PB is THRILLED and overjoyed by this phenomenon as you can imagine.
* Morning sickness is badly/ incorrectly/ named. Most likely by a man.
*Labour???? well named. BLOODY HARD WORK.
and finally.....
* Do the best that you can . Day by day.. hour by hour. minute by minute. Be proud of what each minute achieves.. even if it is nothing more than simply maintaining a SHREAD of sanity. Cos sometimes that is all you can do. and THAT, if achieved, is worth celebrating.
My most humble congratulations to all of you, who day in, day out, manage to combine working, mothering, and sometimes just facing another day.
You are doing a great job.
Be proud of that fact.
The Happiest of Mother's Day to you all.
love, and half an hour with a cuppa and pure, unadulterated peace.
Ngaire
